A trainer who lost his will to train

Peter took a year off to realize one of his dreams: go through Asia and South America on his bicycle. Even though he was physically fit biking through 60 to 100 kilometers every day, his muscular capacity was deteriorating.

After an entire not properly training, COVID-19 came in and he had to cut his trip short. Then, something very common happened to him, the extreme lifestyle changes brought him to become sedentary.

In only three weeks of complete sedentary lifestyle, a major contrast with his usual schedule of 20 hours of group class each week, Pete mentioned that he felt increasingly depressed. With no physical activities in sight combined with the abrupt ending of his dream project and the negative emotions emerging from the COVID-19 situation, his will to be active withered away.

When he came back to work as a group class trainer with Olympe, Peter said his legs were aching. He initially had a hard time brushing his teeth and climbing the stairs because of the pain in his muscles and his knees. “’ For the first time I was witnessing firsthand the speed at which our body can de-condition itself. The fewer activities I was doing, the less I wanted to engage in them. Everything became a chore “.

“Even if people sometimes see us as masters of physical activities, we have the same flaws, the same injury risks and challenges as anyone.”

As kinesiologist, experiences like that are allowing us to remember that it might be difficult to start a fitness program when it is something entirely new or to try to get back to it. ‘’ Even if people sometimes see us as masters of physical activities, we have the same flaws, the same injury risks and challenges as anyone. “

Thanks to his efforts, his knee pain went away by itself. With a progressive come back to his usual activities, like running and pedaling, he was able to get back in shape. Today, Peter is at the same level as he was before his trip, but major efforts were required to achieve this goal.
